Plant Search: Step 1 - The Name

Three Step Process: to look for plants available from nurseries. The Free Plant Search will show you what is listed available. To see the last step: the nurseries you need to subscribe.

Subscriber? Are you logged in? Do it now to save having to search again.

Entering all boxes is not advised - it will often prevent search success.

Type in 3 or more consecutive letters of the genus, and/or species/cultivar, rather than an entire name: (this will minimise spelling anomalies and find plants more effectively)

Enter (Botanical Name) Genus: eg: rhodod for rhododendron
And / Or Species or Cultivar:
OR Common Name: please read notes below

Using just the Genus box gets you a list of all the plants available in that family. Only plants available are listed therefore our entire plant list of 49,000 recorded from NZ nursery catalogues is not viewable.

For more information scroll down to the bottom of this page.

If you use the Common Names box, then search again using the resulting botanical names, There may be a bigger selection of species and/or cultivars (eg apple is not listed against all Malus listings, nor rose against all Rosa) If the common name has two or more words, try searching using one of those words.

Some common names of fruits and vegetables are listed in the species/cultivar box because most people really don't want these botanical names. The more you use this search engine, the more you understand its workings. There is a lot of data.
